It is estimated that around 30.3 million people in the U.S. are living with diabetes, wherein blood glucose levels become too high due to the body's inability to produce or effectively use insulin.

While everyone should eat a healthy diet, those with diabetes must be more careful. Skipping meals or eating the wrong food can lead to dangerously high and low blood glucose levels.

The panel believes that the Mediterranean diet is an excellent option to control or prevent diabetes. [...] Research has shown that diabetics who eat a Mediterranean diet can have higher levels of hemoglobin, which is a measure of blood sugar over time ."

Here, the DASH diet is again featured, ranking second in the top diabetes diet category. Experts note that the menu "looks a lot like the widely accepted nutritional guidelines for people with the condition."
